Super Design Bowl Challenge with Athletic Design Club
63 Visual’s Patrick Carter Featured in Super Design Bowl Presented by Athletic Design Club
Our very own Patrick Carter, Creative Director of 63 Visual, was recently invited to participate in one of the most entertaining and respected competitions in the world of sports branding and design — the Super Design Bowl, hosted by the Athletic Design Club.
This invitation-only design throwdown is a passion project brought to life by none other than Billy Baumann of Delicious Design League, a legendary name in creative circles, and co-hosted by Matt Dawson, the brain behind Stay Gray Ponyboy. For designers who live and breathe sports identity, typography, and visual storytelling, this is the Super Bowl and the Olympics of creative showdowns rolled into one.
And yes — it lived up to the hype.
What Is the Super Design Bowl?
If you’re not familiar with it, the Super Design Bowl is a bracket-style design challenge where some of the best sports branding minds in the business go head-to-head, submitting custom concepts for professional sports teams. These aren’t official redesigns — they’re creative exercises that let designers flex, experiment, and push the boundaries of what a modern team identity could look like.
The result? A wildly inspiring and often hilarious mix of smart concepts, bold design systems, and good-natured trash talk, all streaming live and preserved forever on YouTube.
It’s part portfolio piece, part performance art, and all heart.
Representing Jacksonville: A Custom Jaguars Concept
For this edition of the Super Design Bowl, Patrick was paired up with Myles Mendoza, another talented designer and a fierce competitor in his own right. The challenge: bring your best alternate identity concept for the Jacksonville Jaguars — a team close to home (and heart) for us here at 63 Visual.
Patrick’s approach blended deep local pride, clean type, and a thoughtful look at what the Jaguars brand could represent in a fresh new way. His concept leaned into the toughness, grit, and intensity of the franchise while paying homage to Jacksonville’s history and regional character. Think bold forms, aggressive lines, and a confident simplicity that would look just as strong on the side of a helmet as it would on a hoodie.
You can catch the full breakdown of Patrick’s Jaguars logo concept — and Myles’ take — in the official recap video below:

A Celebration of Sports Design Culture
What makes the Super Design Bowl stand out is its ability to combine serious craft with a genuine love of the game. The hosts, Billy Baumann and Matt Dawson, bring years of design experience and a love for all things athletics. Their banter and insight create a space that feels more like a hangout with your smartest design buddies than a formal critique.
Throughout the episode, they break down each designer’s process, talk about what works (and what doesn’t), and dive into the storytelling behind each logo. It’s a masterclass in visual identity, served with a side of beers, laughs, and late-night design drama.
This isn’t just about who has the slickest logo. It’s about conceptual depth, execution, and how well the story ties into the culture and spirit of the team. For Patrick, that meant staying true to Jacksonville’s character, avoiding cliché, and delivering something that felt both fresh and rooted in authenticity.
Why This Matters to 63 Visual
At 63 Visual, we don’t just design for the sake of it — we build brands with meaning, whether it’s for a local business, a national sports organization, or a grassroots startup with big dreams.
So getting the call to compete in the Super Design Bowl felt like a moment of validation for the work we’ve been doing over the past 14+ years — and for the way we approach branding from the inside out. It’s about more than just logos. It’s about identity, story, culture, and connection.
And being able to do that for our hometown team? That’s the kind of opportunity that doesn’t come along often.
About the Athletic Design Club
The Athletic Design Club is a vibrant community for designers who geek out over sports logos, uniforms, fan culture, and everything in between. It’s more than just a showcase — it’s a network, a think tank, and a celebration of the creative minds who shape the visual language of athletics.
Led by Billy Baumann and co-conspirators like Matt Dawson, the club produces content, hosts interviews, and, of course, puts on wild creative events like the Super Design Bowl — all in the name of pushing design forward and having fun doing it.
If you’re into sports branding, typography, and logo design, this is a rabbit hole worth diving into. You can learn more here.
