Bearing Bottled in Bond Rum Package Design and Branding

Written by in DesignPackaging

Fernandina Beach, just north of Jacksonville, Marlin & Barrel Distillery continues to raise the bar for locally crafted spirits, and 63 Visual is proud to have played a part in shaping its visual identity. Their latest release, Bearing Bottled in Bond Rum, stands as a testament not only to Florida craftsmanship but also to thoughtful package design rooted in tradition and storytelling.

A Modern Take on Heritage Design

The Bearing Rum label was designed to balance maritime heritage with modern refinement, an homage to Florida’s coastal roots and Marlin & Barrel’s adventurous spirit. The compass-inspired layout anchors the brand name, while the crisp typography and copper accents reflect the precision and warmth of the rum within.

Every detail, from the label’s tactile stock to the embossed seal on the neck was crafted to elevate the bottle’s shelf presence and communicate authenticity at first glance. This full-brand experience designed to tell a story before the cork is even pulled.

The Meaning Behind “Bottled in Bond”

The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 set the benchmark for quality and transparency in American distilling. Spirits bearing this designation must be:

  • Produced by a single distiller in one distillation season
  • Aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse
  • Bottled at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV)
  • Free from additives or adulteration

For Marlin & Barrel, earning the Bottled in Bond status is both a badge of honor and a promise to consumers. It signifies that Bearing Rum is a product of integrity, patience, and Florida craftsmanship.

The Premium Design of Local Craft

At 63 Visual, our approach to Jacksonville design projects like this one goes beyond aesthetics. We aim to create visuals that capture the culture, geography, and entrepreneurial spirit of our region. With Bearing Rum, that meant marrying old-world authenticity with a coastal-modern sensibility that feels unmistakably North Florida.

The label’s gold-foil highlights and clean grid system align with the precision of the distilling process itself, while the subtle cartographic motifs connect the rum to its maritime inspiration navigating Florida’s waterways and coastlines in both design and spirit.

Designed and Distilled in Florida

Marlin & Barrel’s story mirrors the creative pulse of the Jacksonville area: independent, hardworking, and proudly local. Every bottle of Bearing Rum is distilled and bottled in Fernandina Beach, made with Florida-grown sugar cane, and designed right here on the First Coast.

This collaboration between two Florida-born brands reflects the region’s growing reputation as a hub for both craft spirits and world-class design. It’s a perfect pairing of creativity and craftsmanship and proof that great design, like great rum, gets better with time and authenticity.

Cheers to Bearing Rum

If you’re a collector or connoisseur of fine spirits, Bearing Bottled in Bond Rum deserves a spot on your shelf. Beyond its remarkable flavor, it’s a showcase of Jacksonville design excellence, combining strategy, storytelling, and style into one beautiful package.
